Tripoli Montana

Launch Site

Steve Shannon runs our main launch site in western Montana near Twin Bridges with a 25,000 foot AGL waiver. The altitude can be increased to 46,000 feet AGL if Steve Shannon is notified a week in advance. The following are directions to Tripoli Montana's site near Twin Bridges, Montana on land owned by the BLM:

  1. From I-90, proceed south on Highway 287 at Whitehall.
  2. At Twin Bridges turn west from Main St. onto 4th Avenue (SR-41) at the signal.
  3. Bear right (west) at about 1/2 mile onto Melrose Twin Bridges County Highway. The road is not marked and is just after the old Montana Children's Center.
  4. Drive 9 miles west on the county road and you are there! If it looks like the road forks and you are not sure which way to go, stay to the left.

The following are directions to Tripoli Montana's launch site north of Billings, Montana on land owned by the BLM:

  1. From I-90, proceed north on US Highway 87 in Billings (Main Street).
  2. Turn left (north) on US Highway 87 just past the old KMart towards Roundup.

The launch site is just north of the road. Park your car next to the barbed wire fence. There is spot in the fence we can walk through, but the fence will be used to separate the spectator/prep area from the launch area. Traffic on the adjacent county road is approximately 1-2 vehicles per hour. Rocket launches will cease if a vehicle approaches within one mile of the site and will not continue until they depart the region or stop to watch. This site has a 5,000 foot AGL waiver.
